Canon BJC-80 Printer Scanner Cartridge/Linux IrDA

The BJC-80 is said to be able to operate as a 360dpi colour scanner using the IS-12 accessory scanner cartridge. Unfortunately Canon has not responded to previous enquiries about the printer and there does not appear to be any technical information available on the scanner cartridge.

The following message was submitted to Canon through their technical support web page on 4 October 1999.

We are using these printers with Linux quite successfully (see
http://www.physiol.usyd.edu.au/daved/linux/bjc-80.html or
http://www.cs.uit.no/linux-irda/hardware/printers/canon-bjc80.html)
and would like to extend their use to include the scanner capabilty
using the IS-12 scanner cartridge, but to do this need technical
information on how to drive it. It would be terrific if you
would help this development.
